Working towards the best outcome for your feeding journey
Breastfeeding/ Chestfeeding Support Physiotherapy
Both in-home and in-office appointments available.
In addition to your physician, OB, midwife, doula and lactation consultant, we have specialized training in breastfeeding/chestfeeding support from a physiotherapist’s perspective. We work closely in collaboration with other members of your health care team, leading to the best outcome for your feeding journey.
Specific to breastfeeding/chestfeeding, we can provide treatments for:
Breast conditions such as blocked ducts, mastitis, and breast inflammation.
Infant conditions such as torticollis, plagiocephaly, tight jaw muscles, and difficulty achieving a wide, open mouth for latching.
Latch and positioning concerns such as shallow latch and positioning for feeding.
What to expect during a breastfeeding/chestfeeding assessment?
Prior to your appointment you will be asked to fill out a health intake form. This will give me a better understanding of your health history before we begin your 1-on-1 75 to 90-minute assessment. Here, I will take a detailed subjective history where we will review your pregnancy, birth, and your breastfeeding/chestfeeding journey thus far. After determining what your goals are, we will proceed with our assessment.
Here we will examine the breast tissue for inflammation, inspect the nipples for trauma, and take the opportunity to observe your baby’s latch during a feed. Based on our findings, we will discuss treatment options to suit your individual needs and develop a plan together.
