Here for you when you need it

Facts

  • Absolutely not!

Mama Wellness Co was originally established to offer mobile pelvic floor physiotherapy for pregnant and postpartum women. Since then, I have expanded to include orthopedic physiotherapy services as well. This expansion has allowed me to continue supporting long-time clients and to welcome new clients with musculoskeletal concerns.

  • There are benefits to both!

    A mobile service will:

    • Increases your comfort by providing treatment in your own space.

    • If you're a new mama, it reduces overall stress that is involved when travelling with your baby/children to receive care.

    • Saves you time that you would have spent sitting in traffic and travelling to a clinic.

    • Provides you with ultimate privacy.

    An in-office service will:

    • Lower the cost of services, making them more accessible.

    • Create a dedicated space for treatment for those who prefer receiving care outside of their home.

    • Enable individuals who live beyond the usual travel area to access treatment.

  • Mama Wellness Co. offers in-home women's pelvic health physiotherapy to the following areas:

    • Halifax

    • Dartmouth

    • Bedford

    • Sackville

    • Hammonds Plains

    • Tantallon

Although there are limitations on the distance I travel, please reach out to see how we can accommodate you.

  • An internal exam is considered the gold standard to assess your pelvic floor function. In order for your physiotherapist trained in pelvic health to accurately identify the strength, function and tone of your pelvic floor muscles and connective tissues, they need to be able to palpate and assess with their hands.

We will explain in great detail what to expect, and we will only proceed with your informed consent after we’ve gone through all of the risks and benefits. An internal exam will only be completed if and when you are ready and comfortable to do so.

At any point during the assessment, for any reason, you can withdraw this consent and we will immediately stop.

  • Yes, absolutely. We are able to both assess and treat the pelvic floor while you are menstruating. If you feel uncomfortable, we can proceed with the appointment externally or you can contact me at info@mamawellnessco.ca to postpone your appointment.

  • You can book your appointment for any time after you’ve entered your second trimester of pregnancy.

Please note, if you have been asked to refrain from penetrative sex by your medical practitioner, it is important to let us know as an internal exam cannot be performed. This does not mean you shouldn’t see a physiotherapist trained in pelvic health as we have lots of external techniques we can use to help!

If you are 35+ weeks along in your pregnancy, please let us know and we will do our best to get you in as soon as possible.

  • Any time after you are cleared at your 6-week check-up with your medical practitioner. If for any reason your 6-week check-up gets delayed, please contact us at info@mamawellnessco.ca to discuss your options or postpone your appointment.

Remember, anyone who has ever birthed a child is considered postpartum, no matter how much time has passed.

  • It is not uncommon for women who have never birthed a child to experience pelvic floor symptoms. Not only does Mama Wellness Co. offer treatments to all birthing persons (even if they don’t identify as ‘mama’), we also offer pelvic floor services to anyone with female anatomy.

At this time, we have not received training to treat the male anatomy, and therefore cannot provide treatment to this population.
